Junior Year
Junior year was quite the busy year. As a third year as UC I felt that I've really found my place in school. I love walking around on campus and seeing people that I know everyday instead of walking around and feeling like the whole school was stranger's back when I was a freshmen.
Academically I feel that I've found my way as well. Though this year was challenging, I felt that I rose to the challenge and performed well consistently first and second semester. As I approach my senior year it is a little scary and sad to think about. It's sad to think that I'll only have one more year left at UC. I am scared about only having a year left to prepare for my nursing boards, the NCLEX. It's also really scary right now to think that I will be taking care of real people all by myself in a year as well.
Starting this fall I had the opportunity to complete three honors experience as once. I took an honors seminar called the Early Language Literature Development. I felt that this provided me with a new perspective when looking at how poverty and schooling or the lack of it has an impact on your development in the future. It also gave me a new perspective on our schooling systems. Another honors experience I completed was Leadershape a couple days after the first semester ended. I have to say finals week must have gotten the best of me because majority of the 5 days on the Leadershape retreat I was very sick. But none the less, I felt that in those days I learned a vast majority of leadership skills that I could apply to my nursing career. I also learned a little bit more about myself and what kind of leader I am through the different personality tests and group activities. I completed my final honors experience a couple weeks after Leadershape by going on the CON Dominican Republic Mission Trip. I had a an absolute great experience during my time in the DR. We had fund raised all semester in order to bring over much medical supplies as we could to treat the underserved communities in Monte Cristi. I had a very eye opening experience providing very basic nursing care to the residents of the DR. My time and experience in the DR will never be forgotten.
Juniour year ended with my acceptance into the Nursing CO-OP program which has been a goal of mine to get into since my freshman year of school. I am unbelievably excited to have a position on the SICU and work on an ICU in general. After working in the ED for an entire year I found that I really love critical care and could see myself working on a critical care floor after graduation.
