Leadership to me:
A leader is someone who can effect change. In order to achieve this, a leader must be a good listener, an effective communicator, a role model, and a problem solver.
Over the course of the 5 day retreat at Leadershape I feel that my definition of leadership has not changed but I feel that I've learned more about each of the components of my definition. The Institute helped thoroughly break down what it means to be a good listener, effective communicator, role model and problem solver through different small group activities, lectures, and personal examples. Even though my definition of leadership did not change I feel that I left the retreat with a new perspective and direction of leadership. I felt that I could see the application of each component of my definition in practice of a leader.
Leadershape was a unique experience the week was jam packed with activities. I've never had such a filled daily schedule. Leadershape had each minute planned with ice breakers, small groups, lectures, games, interactive activities, slide shows, and presenters. All of these activities made it almost impossible not to get involved and meet all of the other fellow Leadershape goers. Leadershape really pushed all of those on the retreat to go out of your comfort zone and get to know other people. Alongside with getting to know others Leadershape had a aspect of self-discovery as well. I thought it was interesting that in order to identify our own leadership skills we took a personality test. The personality test told us how we deal with conflict, what skills we exhibit, and who we work best with. This was one of my favorite activities because after we took the personality test we group with other people who also tested the same and did activities with this group for the rest of the week.
Overall, I thought that Leadershape was a great experience. I thought that the retreat gave me new knowledge and tools that I could apply to my life and furthermore my professional life after graduation. Throughout the retreat I was surprised with the amount of knowledge that I could see myself applying to my nursing practice. My paramount goal in college has always been to become the best nurse that I can be and I thought that Leadershape aided me with new skills that help me take another step closer to my goal.

Breakthrough BlueprintThroughout the retreat we took little steps to coming up with a blueprints for something that we would like to see in the future. In light of my upcoming mission trip to the Dominican Republic I made my blueprints surrounded by the idea of access to health care throughout Central America.
